General Information

  • Annual Income: Over 48% of Alameda households have annual incomes over $50,000. The average household income is $68,376.
     

  • Within a five-mile radius, 70,000 people hold a Bachelor's Degree or better, and 62,500 households have an income over $50,000.
     

  • Growth: With a population of nearly 80,000, and a projected growth to 95,000 by the year 2010, Alameda now ranks as one of the most dynamic cities in the Bay Area. Alameda grew nearly 20% from 1980 to 1990 in square miles.
     

  • The community is also home to the College of Alameda and the California School of Professional Psychology. A one-stop employment center at the city of Alameda can help link employers with qualified employees.

  • Alameda's retailers generate nearly $400 million in sales each year. By major retail category, restaurants garner $54 million, grocery/drug items $230 million, home electronics over $14 million, apparel over $50 million, footwear $11 million, home furnishings over $6 million, home appliances over $6 million and home improvements over $17 million annually.
      

  • Education: 98% of Alameda high school students complete all four years. Approximately 65% of residents over 25 are college-educated, and 40% are employed in executive, managerial and technical occupation.
